Stormy skies by Melissa Conkey Copyright 2025

Stormy skies by Melissa Conkey Copyright 2025

Waiting on a prayer

When the waves start to dance in a faster pace

And I look up at the sky,

I see the looming clouds grow dark

And cover it, like night.

The wind swirls around me,

An eerie chill;

A shiver wraps around me

In a sudden frightful thrill.

It's coming.

I taste it:

The salty foreboding storm.

It's racing, on target.

But when I feel so alarmed,

Down on my knees again,

Down in the depths of my heart,

Toward heaven, up past the storm-

The words are hopeful

As it all sinks in

And the rain falls in torrents,

Trying to drown out my faith

Once again.

But I'm waiting,

Waiting on a prayer.

After 40 days of relentless storms,

Coming and going

Then coming again,

Forgetting what the warmth of the sun feels like-

It's trying to drown out my faith-

But I'm waiting,

Waiting on a prayer.

Because I know it's coming,

I know it will end;

One day, I'll feel the joy of the sunshine again.

Till then, Lord Jesus, I'm holding tight to this:

Faith that just won't quit;

And Love that is forever my comfort,

Because I'm waiting,

Waiting on a prayer.

Before the Dawn

Bang!

It hits like a knife

Onto the metal scaffold

Everything changing

The night sets in

But you see the light within

Shining

Like a star

Everything changes

One door closes

Another opens

Bandages and braces

Slow down, slow down

Look at the bees in the flowers

Beauty in the pain

The dawn is coming

Till then

Enjoy the moonlight sparkling

Like a geode opened

Crystals within.

Stability

There once was a man who had it all

Riches, houses, fame

Then one day the stock market crashed

And his money was taken away;

That same night a storm hit

And something fell from the sky

His house toppled over

And everything he had was destroyed;

But still he thought

I have fame and fans

But his fame faded away as people ran

To a new fad.

So there he was with nothing

No home, no riches, no fame

So he looked to the sky and shouted why?!

But a whisper called his name

"You trusted in riches,

You placed your value in material things

You lived off your fame

But never did you acknowledge my name.

I called you to trust me.

I called you to love.

But you were too busy living for self.

And now all is lost in a flood.

But if you stop and look to me,

And if you trust in my Grace,

I will build you a new home

With foundations that won't crumble and break.

And you will have riches of peace, love, and joy

And you will find true treasure.

But first you need to let go of the last thing you possess;

Losing all that temporary stuff was a test.

Let go of your pride, your anger, your greed

And come here, follow Me,

Because I died for you;

I gave all to save you;

I Rose again and defeated death,

So you can have life in my Name."

"Who are you?" he cried aloud,

A tear falling from his eye.

"I AM Jesus

And I give to all who believe in me

Eternal Life."

Jesus said,

They "hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one." John 10:27-30 KJV Bible

Eye of the storm

The storm rages all around me

I hear the wind blow like steam

Swirling the air into a mess

The smells are musty and gray

But suddenly Im pulled away

Into the middle of it

The calmness of the deep

Seeing the disaster

But yet set apart

Im in the eye of the storm

Wondering when Ill be sucked back in

Wondering if it will soon end

Amazed to be alive

Looking up

Jesus, rescue me.

A Poem: In the Wilderness

The sun glares in the early afternoon

A blazing heat that reaches out with unseen hands

Trying to grab at me

As I walk through the wilderness

Going from shadow to shadow

Looking ahead for

Oasis

Looking for relief, for rest

It's a time of life where I see it more

The way God loves me

How He sends the cool breeze to grace my cheek

And I am cooled for a few moments

It's a time of life that is daunting

Wondering how to get by

But I see Your hand reach out to me

And help me stand up and keep going

When will I reach it?

That safe haven of rest?

Where the intense heat of the sun

Can't touch me

And where the river flows

Cool to refresh

Weary heart.

For now I'll rest in Your loving embrace

Thankful for the empty tomb

And waiting for the day

When all will be finally

At rest.

Spectrum life

Every smile you share reminds me

   of the love hidden inside.

Words escape;

You speak in a different voice.

Sometimes you dance to a

       song only you can hear;

Sometimes you shout because

       you want something you cant have.

You surprise me.

Other times you get overwhelmed:

Tears fall or hands fly

As you try to find some solid ground;

Your world is a full tilt

And your heart is in a storm.

So you cry and kick,

You hit and bite,

You cant find control

And its frightening.

But Im here

To be an anchor,

To remind you that the storm will pass,

And you will come out on the other side-

Where your smile will return

And bubbles make you clap with glee.

And I will look on and smile

Because you are

You.

Say a prayer; pray in faith

Father,

I just want them to know you
You said Love was the Key
To show the world the beauty
Truth sets us free.

But anger and hatred divides
Fear is raging
And makes us want to hide
But I see You walking on the waves
And all is well.

I just want them to know You
And Your love that is real.
A great designer
A loving King
A strong defender
Who loves even the poor and meek.

You speak kindness
You speak righteousness
Your ways are mighty-
I long for them to see.

God, please use me
Love is the Key
Give them Faith to believe.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Peace in the midst

Lessons I've learned

Though it took long

You'd think I wasn't so slow;

The same message in different forms,

Over and over we go.

But the same result.

Is this insanity?

The stress and anxiety?

But a different result finally made way-

Curious to see the growth in the new day;

Lessons I've learned...

Let's start with one.

Here we are in the world:

The news flashing

Negative- danger, danger.

What are we going to do?

Here we are in the world:

The bills are calling,

The debt is laughing,

The food is costly.

Nothing changes;

It's all the same;

Negative- danger, danger.

But then the new day comes

And we breathe again

And we lived again

And God was faithful again.

So in conclusion,

The Lesson is this:

Chaos and problems are the world's bread and butter,

But I know God who tells the sun to shine

And He never fails

And He never will.

So stress and anxiety

No more hold on me

In this.

Just another day

Roller coaster, wild ride

I'll be fine

And laugh,

I will smile and dance,

I will fall on my knees and pray-

Because God is the reason

I can have peace in the day.

Oak Tree

Thank you, Jesus, that even in this

You stay;

Never abandoned by Your love.

Was told I was strong

But I knew I was weak

Still standing tall

In the wind

Like an Oak Tree

Through every storm

I looked to You

Believing You would see me through.

I tried to be a safety place,

Covered each day in Your abiding Grace

But then a storm came

That was too much

And this Oak Tree broke

Branches flew off

And tears fell down.

I thought they needed me

I had to stay

I had to be a refuge, an ever-present strength

Like an Oak Tree in a storm

But I see it now

That life is full of seasons

And sometimes the path does change

Though still dear in my heart

I know You are their abiding strength

And that You will guide me to where

I can grow

And this Oak Tree

Will one day again be whole.

For now, thank You that You are the Refuge

That everyone needs

That I don't have to be strong

I can lean on Your Grace

And You will lead me

Carry me

Use me

Grow me

This is Your garden

And I am but a tree

And now it's time to go

And live life differently.

Note: When you leave a job you love, know that God's love for you is deeper. His plans are greater than you can imagine. And you don't have to be the Savior. Just rest in the love of Jesus, the True Savior.
